About the Style of the WIndows

In the late 1880s stained glass windows were used as architectural features for many buildings--not just religious buildings.  The windows are First Parish Church in Derry, NH, were dedicated in 1884.  

They are colorful and most of them have a mixture of patterns and symbols. Some of the symbols are common to many churches--cross and crown, anchor, and a Bible.  Other symbols include many images of flowers and leaves and also an Alpha and Omega symbols.

Opalescent glass was used in several of the windows and they all feeature panes with the names of the people that the windows commemorate.
