Taylor Family Commemorated
Commemorating Several Members of the Taylor Family
Over the years, many members of the Taylor family have played significant roles in the Derry and Londonderry area. Matthew and Janet Taylor came to Londonderry in 1722. Their sixth son, Samuel, had several children, including Henry Taylor (died 1865) and James Taylor (died) 1864). These two brothers, Henry and James were both very active in the community and church and are commemorated in two stained glass windows.
Henry Taylor was a farmer and actively served First Parish Church as a Deacon. Many people referred to him as Uncle Henry.
James Taylor and his wife Persis lived on a farm on what is now Island Pond Road. They had nine children. One of their sons, Samuel Harvey Taylor ,was principal of Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. One of their daughters, Sarah, maried Charles C. Parker, the son of minister, Rev. Edward Parker.
